Even though the scenery might be changing a little bit for Emily in the next season, her adventures abroad in romance and career aren't over yet. Following the two-part release of season 4 in August and September 2024, Emily in Paris will be back for season 5!
The popular Netflix original romantic comedy series, which was nominated for Outstanding Comedy Series at the Emmys for its first season, debuted its strike-delayed fourth season leading up to the fall season. Season 4's highly anticipated return arrived nearly two years after season 3 dropped, but the drama-filled season was more than worth the wait.
In Emily in Paris season 4, the aftermath of Gabriel and Camille's jilted wedding reverberated through their group, with Emily still reeling from the pregnancy reveal and Alfie breaking up with her. While she and Gabriel finally gave their romantic relationship a go, they got lost in translation, and Emily's trip to Rome turned out to be more fruitful than she could have ever imagined.
Looking for all the details about Emily in Paris season 5 and what to expect from the next batch of episodes? Here are all the latest updates fans need to know!
On Nov. 20, Variety reported some exciting news about the production schedule for Emily in Paris season 5. While some fans might have hoped cameras would start rolling sooner, season 5 will start filming in Paris and Rome in May 2025. That's in line with past seasons, which began filming in spring and wrapped by summer for a release before the end of the year.
Following delays brought on by the strikes, which saw season 4 postponed from its usual December drop, Emily in Paris seems to be returning to its usual production schedule, which should again put the series on track for a return to form and a release in December 2025. That's merely a prediction and the season could drop sooner or later, but keep your fingers crossed!
On Sept. 16, just a few days after the release of Emily in Paris season 4 part 2, Netflix and series star and producer Lily Collins announced the official renewal of Emily in Paris season 5. In a promotional video announcing the renewal, Collins teases Emily's new surroundings by saying, "There's no place like Rome." Emily's next adventure has been set!
At the time of the season 5 renewal, Netflix didn't confirm release plans or production dates. While the fourth season was split into two separate releases, that's not necessarily the plan for season 5, though the writers did comment on enjoying the challenge of crafting a two-part season. The season will likely once again contain 10 episodes just like the four previous seasons.
Release Prediction: December 2025
Lucas Bravo will return for season 5
In addition to the production start date, Variety also reported that Lucas Bravo is currently expected to reprise his role as Gabriel in season 5. The news comes after Bravo made some unsavory comments about the series and his character in the press while promoting a recent film project. He caused concern that he could leave the series as his contract was up after season 4.
Bravo had been expressing discontent with Gabriel's direction in recent seasons, especially in season 4, as the "sexy chef" took a bit more of a backseat post-breakup with Emily. The actor revealed that he felt disconnected from the character, and as Variety reports, he was rumored to want to take Gabriel in grittier direction a la The Bear, but we'll see where season 5 takes him.
Even though Variety has reported that Gabriel will still be part of the series in season 5 due to his restaurant being one of the locations for the season, it's worth noting that the capacity in which he will appear remains to be confirmed. Whether he's a series regular or a recurring cast member should be revealed once production begins and the season nears release.
Warning: Spoilers ahead from Emily in Paris season 4.
If you have watched Emily in Paris season 4, then you know Emily is moving to Rome! While pursuing and ultimately landing Marcello's family business as a client, Sylvie decides to open an office for Agence Grateau in Rome. Emily will be overseeing the new office's launch and taking the lead on Marcello's family's account. It's a major career move —and geographical move— for Emily!
Darren Star has insisted that even though Emily will be working in Rome and enjoying her time with new boyfriend Marcello, that doesn't mean Paris will be losing Emily forever. As Star told Netflix's Tudum, "Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome." Hmmm... Does it sound like she could be back in Paris sooner rather than later in season 5?
For now, Emily seems to be happily in a new relationship with Marcello, an uncomplicated blossoming love that allows for her to put her phone down and live in the moment. But Gabriel has realized that he wants Emily back and looks to be planning a trip to Rome to track her down. He might have missed his chance with her this time around, but we'll have to wait and see what season 5 has in store.
While we'll be seeing more of Emily, Gabriel, Marcello, Mindy (a newly minted Chinese Pop Star judge!), Sylvie and the Agence Grateau team in season 5, Star has hinted that we might be seeing a bit less of Camille next season. After finding out she wasn't actually pregnant, Camille decides to adopt a baby on her own at the end of season 4. The creator admitted he isn't sure how much of her story we will be seeing in season 5, but he also confirmed that we will be seeing Alfie and learning more about his mystery girlfriend.
